USING COMIC STRIPS ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN LEARNING PROCEDURAL TEXT IN THE SECOND GRADE OF SMA NEGERI 1 DARUL IMARAH ACEH BESAR

Learning writing is not an easy thing because there are some matters to consider such as selecting the appropriate grammar and vocabulary, thinking about the purpose of the text to be composed and choosing of a suitable style. This research focused on using comic strips on students’ achievement in learning procedural text. The purpose of this study was to find out whether or not comic strips effective to be used on students’ achievement in learning procedural text in the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Darul Imarah Aceh Besar. The researcher used experimental quantitative research as the method in this study. The test was used as the instrument. The result showed that there is significant difference of students’ score of writing procedural text before using comic strips and the students’ score of writing procedural text after using comic strips. The result showed that t-score (9,7994)) is higher than critical at level significant 0,05 (1,708). It means that there was significant difference between two tests. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it answered the research question using comic strips improved the students’ ability in writing procedural text. Thus, considering the use of comic strips on studenst’ achievement in learning procedural text is effective, therefore, it is suggested that the English teachers have to use the comic strips as media in teaching and learning writing especially procedural text. However, there are still some weaknesses in using comic strips to teach writing procedural text. First, it was hard for the students to describe the imaginary of the story in the comic since they were focused on the image in the comic strips. Second, the students got difficulties to adjust the correct vocabullary which appropiate with the image in comic strips. The last, students have differences point of view in determining the steps on how to make something in the comic strips. Therefore, their writing still disorderly.
