Abstract
Nowadays, English is essential to learn because it has become an international language and in Indonesia English is studied as a foreign language, it is taught as an obligatory subject from junior high school to senior high school, as a foreign language the teachers face various challenges in teaching english at the school and the purpose of this study is to identify teachers challenges in teaching English at SMA Negeri 2 Banda Aceh, the causes that contribute to those challenges, and the strategies the teachers employ to overcome those challenges. A qualitative-descriptive methodology was employed in this investigation. Researchers employed observation, interview, and document analysis to gather data for this investigation. The researcher discovered various challenges faced by teachers of English at SMAN 2 Banda Aceh based on the data collection results. Managing pupils presents several difficulties. The challenges include: students in which lack of enthusiasm for learning English; students' ignorance of the fundamentals of English classes; using one's native tongue while learning English; student lack of vocabulary and student lack of self-confidence, after conducting this study the author hopes the teachers must maximize the preparation of materials, methods and mentally during teaching english language at the school.
