AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN MASTERING READING COMPREHENSION AT SMAN 1 KOTA BAHAGIA

This study aims to analyze students' interests, difficulties, and solutions in reading English texts. The methods used are questionnaires and interviews with students
from a high school. The results of the study indicate that although students' interest in learning English is relatively high, their interest in reading English texts is low. Most students find it difficult to read English texts due to limited vocabulary and difficulty in pronunciation. Their level of confidence in reading texts is also very
low, followed by feelings of fear and shame when asked to read by the teacher. In addition, the results of the interviews revealed that students had made plans to
overcome these difficulties, such as taking courses, using mobile devices to study, and deepening the material independently. This study shows the importance of more
appropriate interventions to improve English text reading skills among students.
